When Panathinaikos Athens lost in Turkey, last week, was not the only looser since Basketball as a game lost and friendship between the two neighbor countries is under doubt! Abdi Imbeski was a real hell for the Greeks and hundreds of items were thrown to the Greek players with the "help" of the referees since they were pretending as if nothing happens! The signs (in Greek and English) from the Turks (supposing they are basketball funs) such us Greece is a Turkish territory and that Greece lost its virginity by Turks in 1453, plus all the Turkish Cypriot flags which were all over the court, shows exactly the kind of atmosphere that the Greek players had to face. The worst of all was the hundreds of bottles thrown to the players of Panathinaikos Athens, lighters, teens and other staffs were the smaller items thrown. The police was there! But definitely haven’t done a lot (they only beat people in peaceful demonstrations!)

Of course one might say that this is the way things happen, a nation shows its civilization and culture by these events!

For the game now, Panathinaikos Athens was fighting the game for 37 minutes and against all odds since both referees were facing they game with terror due to the “hot and fearful climate” so the ball was “given” easily to the Turkish players, the game would have had a different result though if the “leader” of the green team Fragiskos Alvertis (206-F-74) was successful in the three pointer on the 37th minute when the score was 67-61 for the Turks. Top scorer for the Turkish team was Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) with 24 and 5 three pointers and from the Greek team Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) and Patrick Femerling (213-C-75, college: Washington) scoring 20 and 10 points respectively. An amazing event is that even Ibo was terrified and disappointed by his country fellows and mentioned this after the end of the game.

After the end of the game Dimitris Papanikolaou (201-F-77) (201-F-77) talked to the Greek reporters remembering a game in Turkey ten years ago when he was playing with the rivals of Panathinaikos Athens , Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus, and faced exactly the same atmosphere from the Turkish funs. Things are not getting better, from a country that wants to joined EU, some things must change urgently!! Before is too late.Next game in a best of three series is on Thursday and hopefully Greeks will be better hosts than Turks for the sake of Basketball, if not another article will follow with all the details in regards to the game.

Panathinaikos made the first step to the F4 - Apr. 7, 2005 - by Eurobasket
In an awesome game last night at a packed with 10,000 people stadium, Panathinaikos beated Efes Pilsen 102-96 after overtime making his first step to qualify for the Euroleague F4!
In the first period both teams played very good defence but Savo Scepanovic (194-F-70), Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) and Mike Batiste (203-F-77, college: Seattle S.) on the one hand and Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) with Henry Domercant (191-G-80, college: E.Illinois) on the other were on a great nigth scoring difficult shots, so the period ended in draw 21-21. After the second period both teams started committing a lot of fouls and most points were scored with free throws. Prcatsin committed his 4th foul on the 18th minute and that weakened Efe's frontline a lot. The game was in total balance though and was taken to halftime with another draw 46-46 by Arrslan's awesome three-pointer...
In the third period, three-pointers started falling like bombs... Ibrahim Kutluay (198-F/G-74), Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) and Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) were scoring amazing shots behind the line. Panathinaikos didn't have a good free throw percentage so he couldn't take a lead bigger than 5-6 points but then Henry Domercant (191-G-80, college: E.Illinois) scored 2 three-pointers and the period ended 64-63. With good defence Panathinaikos managed to take the lead 78-71 with Efes players making many turnovers. But then. just as Panathinaikos' fans thought their team was close to 1-0, Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) decided to take the game to his hands and scored 7 straight points making the score 83-81 with 17seconds on the clock.
Then a free throw shootout started with: Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) having 2/2 taking the score to 85-81 and Henry Domercant (191-G-80, college: E.Illinois) 2/2 (85-83), with 12'' to go Savo Scepanovic (194-F-70) had 1/2 (86-83) and Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) had 2/2 (86-85). With 7'' left Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) scored 2/2 (88-85) but Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) won another foul with 3,4'' to go. He scored the first one and deliberately lost the second. In the mix up under Panathinaikos' basket Henry Domercant (191-G-80, college: E.Illinois) was left alone with he ball and tied the game 88-88.
In the middle of overtime, Efes Pilsen took the lead 90-92 and 93-95. At that point Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) won another foul, scored both free throws but the italian referee Colucci didn't count it cause he "saw" Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) stepping the line before the ball reached the basket. Efes Pilsen's players raged and left for the lockers protesting. With all those nerves Panathinaikos lead by Savo Scepanovic (194-F-70) took the lead 99-95 and the final win 102-96.
Jaka Lakovic (182-G-78) (26 points and 5 assists), Savo Scepanovic (194-F-70) (19 points and 7 rebounds), Mike Batiste (203-F-77, college: Seattle S.) (17 points and 10 rebounds) and Koutlouai (17 points with 4/6 thr.) were the best for Panathinaikos while Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson) (25 points and 7 assisnts with 4/7 thr.), Henry Domercant (191-G-80, college: E.Illinois) (29 points and 8 rebounds) and Prkacin (12 points with 11 rebounds) did their best for Efes Pilsen.
In the press conference after the game, Zelico Obradovic said: "We were expecting a tough game and that was what we got, but also there was a high level of basketball played too... We won so we need one more win in the next two games to qualify for the Final Four. The fans were fantastic and they helped as a lot but the ones that through stuff at the Turkish players should be dispatched from the stadium... Now the pressure is on Efes Pilsen, if we want to win Turkey we have to play much better defence than today..." The Turkish team's coach commented: "Congratulations to Panathinaikos for the win. We were better i think, but there are many parameters that lead you from winning to losing and vice versa. Both teams are of the highest level and we have to respect that".
Lastly, During the Turk's protests after Will Solomon (187-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: Clemson)'s un-counted free throw many of Efe's players provoked Panathinaikos' fans and there was pandemonioum for 5 minutes. Luckily the referees included all that in the match report so Panathinaikos is not going to be punished by the Euroleague officials.

Sevgili arkadaslar,

Not: Ati lutfen benim o eksi puani verdigimi sanma, o ben degilim

gerek gormedim...

Eksi puana gelince;
Eksi puan, verenin takdiri diyelim...

Yalniz eksi puanlarla fikirlerimde hicbir sekilde sapma
olmayacagindan icim rahat. Ama Oguzhan, senin o eksiyi
verdigin zaten aklimin ucundan gecmemisti.

Ekledigin yazilari dikkate almadim, cunku tarafli bir Rum tarafindan yazilan yazi
ne kadar dikkate alinir ki? Kisacasi tarafsiz birinin yazisi olmadigi gibi, sitenin
Yunanistan basketbol bolumune eklenmis zaten.

arasinda gosterilmesine ragmen hicbir basari elde edememesindendir.
Gercek buyuk her turlu zorluklara ragmen bunu basaracak gucu bulabilir,

Yoksa Turkiye Ligi´nde Ulkerspor ve kisitli imkanlarla mucadele eden kulup takimlari
karsisinda istedigin sekilde at kosturabilirsin. Hatta hatta buna zaman zaman

hakki yok, cunku buyuk balik kucuk baligi her zaman yer.

Ayrica kabul etseniz de etmeseniz de (taskinlik yapan fanatiklere ragmen)
sonucta bu bir spor karsilasmasi.
Ve Efes orada her turlu olumsuzluga ragmen sakinligini korur, oyun disiplininden
kopmayip kendi oyununu ortaya koyarsa ´Dortlu Final´e kalmasina hicbir neden
goremiyorum.
