InterContinental Hotels Group Announces Signing of New Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ankara
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) today announced the signing of a 30-year franchise deal with Yeni Gimat Isyerleri Isletmesi A.S and Laledan to open a new Crowne Plaza hotel in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
The 264-room hotel will be located on a prime site next to one of the largest shopping malls in Turkey - also owned by Yeni Gimat - and boasting 300 shops and a large multiplex cinema.
Due to open at the end of 2007, Crowne Plaza Ankara will comprise two restaurants, four bars, a choice of eight meeting rooms and a stylish ball room with the capacity to host 400 delegates. The hotel will also offer sauna, spa and steam rooms, along with a traditional Turkish hamam.
Richard Hartman, Managing Director Europe, Middle East and Africa for IHG said: “Crowne Plaza Ankara will be our seventh hotel in Turkey, further increasing the presence of IHG in this rapidly developing country and enhancing our brand recognition in the area.”
Erman Oymagil, Member of the Board of Yeni Gimat said: “The rapidly improving efficiency and growth of the economy; the young, dynamic nature of the population; Turkey’s integration with the EU and more competitive, stronger economic structure all clearly support our investment decision. Strong management know-how and high brand awareness are key factors in today’s business world. Thanks to InterContinental Hotels Group, we have no doubt in the future of our investment.”
The hotel has excellent transport links, with a metro station opposite making the old city centre and business district within easy reach. For guests seeking tranquillity the hotel overlooks a large park which is one of the main recreational areas of Ankara.
With six hotels in Turkey, IHG already has a strong footprint in the country across a multi-brand platform including InterContinental Ceylan Istanbul; Crowne Plaza, Istanbul; Crowne Plaza Izmir; Holiday Inn Istanbul; Holiday Inn Istanbul City and Holiday Inn Bursa. Forthcoming new openings also include Crowne Plaza Istanbul-Old City and Holiday Inn Istanbul Airport-North. The Crowne Plaza Ankara further extends the company’s presence in the country".
